Locking Policy

Version 1 · 27 Apr 2026

1. What Is the Lock

Every prediction on Lockcast becomes immutable a short time after publication. This immutability is called the lock.

2. When Predictions Lock

You have a 5-minute window after publishing a prediction to make edits. Once this window closes, the prediction is locked and its content cannot be changed. The lock timestamp is recorded and visible on the prediction detail page.

3. Why Predictions Lock

Locking preserves the integrity of the prediction record. Allowing edits after voting or resolution begins would undermine trust in the platform and make fair adjudication impossible.

4. What You Can Change After Lock

You may add clarification notes to a locked prediction. Clarification notes are visually distinguished from the original prediction text and do not alter the locked content.

5. What You Cannot Change After Lock

You cannot edit the prediction text, resolution criteria, or resolution date. You cannot delete a prediction that has received votes.

6. Resolution and Disputes After Lock

Resolvers and voters assess outcomes based solely on the original locked content. Clarification notes are visible to resolvers but do not override the locked text.
